Tega Cay is located on a peninsula in Lake Wylie twenty miles south
of Charlotte, NC. The name Tega Cay is Polynesian for “Beautiful
Peninsula.” First developed in 1970, on land previously owned by
Duke Energy, the Polynesian theme was carried out everywhere, from
the style of the houses, to the names of the streets. While the
city has grown extensively beyond its original boundaries, and the
newer developments feature modern homes in the current styles, the
older sections of the city retain their original character and
charm, with a diverse collection of homes nestled into the densely
forested, hilly terrain surrounding the lake.
Lake Wylie is a major feature of the community, and is the backdrop
for numerous public parks, lakeside homes, and the city's Beach and
Swim Club. The city’s slogan is “The Good Life”, and recreational
opportunities are abundant. Facilities located in Tega Cay include
27 holes of golf with a clubhouse and pavilion, 8 lighted tennis
courts, several miles of walking trails, and 4 city owned parks of
which 2 have baseball and soccer fields available for public use.
Waterfront amenities include a beach and swimming center, a marina,
and 3 boat launch areas. 2 more waterfront parks are still in the
planning stages.
